Prof Alyce Mahon

Reader in Modern and Contemporary Art History

Alyce Mahon specialises in modern and contemporary art, with a particular interest in the European and American avant-garde. Her publications include her monographs Surrealism and the Politics of Eros (Thames & Hudson, 2005) and Eroticism & Art (Oxford University Press, 2005), the co-authored book Jean-Jacques Lebel: Barricades (Walther König, 2014), and numerous essays on the avant-garde and neo-avant-garde, performance and feminist art practice. Her research on the moving image is concentrated in two areas, linked by their counter-cultural agendas: Dada and Surrealist cinema, and experimental film of the 1960s and 1970s - notably Beat Cinema and the films of Carolee Schneemann and Yoko Ono.
