Mairi McLaughlin specialises in French linguistics, focussing on questions of variation and change caused by language contact. Her doctoral research project concerns the effects of English on French and Italian through translation in the press. Her previous work focuses on dislocation in French and its usage across different codes and different language types.
She lectures on the structures and varieties of contemporary French and on the history of the French language. She also supervises for a range of colleges and teaches French language.
