New Hall Festival of German Films

The Fesitval of German Films continues the highly successful series of recent film festivals devoted to languages at New Hall. The films will all be shown in the new Buckingham House Lecture Theatre with 16 mm projection and English subtitles. The College is grateful to the Department of German for its financial support in this project.
Admission free. Donations welcome.

Deutschland, bleiche Mutter (Germany, Pale Mother)

The story of women who kept things going while men were sent to the front in WWII. An epoch-making film, which deals with great honesty with the war and its aftermath.

Kurz und Schmerzlos (Short and Painless)

dir. Fatih Akin, 1998, 100 mins.

Introduced by Dr Michael Gratzke

Gabriel, the son of Turkish parents in Hamburg, tries to return to a normal life after a spell in prison, but discovers that this is not so easy. A film about the problems of integration revealing human sensitivity as well as anger.

A film by the director of the highly acclaimed film, Run Lola, Run, dealing with memory and identity, love, sex and death.
