Charlotte Woodford teaches German literature and history after 1500. Her areas of particular interest are the nineteenth century and the early modern period (1500-1700). Her research focuses in particular on women's writing. Her first book, Nuns as Historians in Early Modern Germany, was published in 2002, and she continues to be interested in nuns' writings, especially those written during the Thirty Years' War. For 2011-12 she has been awarded a British Academy Mid-career Fellowship to work on protest fiction by women at the end of the nineteenth century.
