Introduction
The MPhil in Russian Studies is an interdisciplinary course based in the Department of Slavonic Studies but taught, supervised and examined with the support and participation of several other Faculties and Departments: History, Social and Political Sciences, Social Anthropology, History of Art, Music, and the Scott Polar Research Institute. Cross-disciplinary collaboration in this area is coordinated through the Cambridge Committee for Russian and East European Studies (CamCREES).
The course aims to develop awareness of, and practical competence in, a range of key skills and approaches relevant to the advanced study of Russian society, culture and history. Thanks to the recent setting up of Ukrainian Studies in the Slavonic Department the MPhil will also be of interest to students with academic interests in that area.
The MPhil in Russian Studies functions both as an intellectually-challenging self-contained degree, and as excellent preparation for PhD work in any of the relevant disciplines. In addition, students graduating from this MPhil will have acquired skills, knowledge and understanding likely to be attractive to employers in the public and private sectors.
The current Prospectus provides detail on the course structure and content, with links to information on modules, applying, funding, and to a list of the Academic staff who contribute to the course.
The application process is outlined under Applying, and you will find links to the Board of Graduate Studies where it is possible to download the Graduate Application Form.
Current students (and staff) gives information about the course currently in progress, such as Core Course Lecture and Seminar listings, the Graduate Calendar, guidelines on the assessment of written work for the MPhil, and tips on the presentation of essays and theses.
