Adam Ledgeway's research interests include generative syntax (especially Minimalism) and morphosyntactic change. He also specialises in the history and structure of the Romance languages, in particular Italian and the dialects of Italy. He is the author of 'Asyndetic complementation in Neapolitan dialect', The Italianist (1997); 'Variation in the Romance Infinitive: the case of the southern Calabrian inflected infinitive', Transactions of the Philological Society (1998); 'I tempi sovraccomposti nel napoletano antico', L'Italia Dialettale (1997-99); and A comparative syntax of the dialects of southern Italy: a minimalist approach, Oxford: Blackwell (2000).
