Welcome to the Faculty Library

The Modern and Medieval Languages Library supports teaching and learning in European languages, literatures and cultures and in linguistics. The Library holds over 115,000 books and 5,000 films as well as European magazines and newspapers, e-books, e-journals and a small selection of scholarly print journals. MML undergraduates and MPhil students should find all the material they need for their studies in these collections.

The Library also includes a German research collection, the Beit Library collection.


Opening hours

Term time hours resume on Monday 24 April 2017.


Vacation opening hours:

Monday - Friday: 9.00-17.00

Saturday: Closed

Sunday: Closed


Easter closure 2017:

Good Friday 14 April 2017 - Easter Monday 17 April 2017 inclusive.


Term time opening hours:

Monday - Friday: 9.00-19.00

Saturday: 9.00-17.00

Sunday: Closed


Extended opening hours for 5 weeks during the examination period:

Monday - Friday: 9.00-21.00

Saturday: 9.00-17.00

Sunday: 10.00-18.00



Doors are locked 15 minutes before closing time and no more readers are admitted.

Now open on Sundays too

As of this weekend and for the next 4 weeks, we are open 10-6 on Sundays as well as 9-5 on Saturdays. We also have plenty of squash, biscuits and coffee to keep you going. Good luck with your revisions!

Between Monday 8 May and Thursday 8 June inclusive, we will be open until 9pm Monday to Friday, 9-5 on Saturdays, and we will be trialling opening on Sundays between 10 and 6. Do give us your feedback on the opening hours, we're keen to hear what you think!
