Cognitive benefits of language learning highlighted in British Academy special report

The British Academy has commissioned a special report on the cognitive benefits of language learning, which aims to provide an overview of existing research in the field.

Researchers from the University College London, and the UCL Institute of Education, headed jointly by Professor Bencie Woll FBA and Professor Li Wei, will lead the project. They will examine the relationship between language learning and cognitive function across the lifespan including its effects on literacy, health, employment and community cohesion.

The British Academy expects to publish its findings in the second half of 2017.

See the British Academy's website for more details.
