Record Enrollment for Open Classes in Polish

Polish Beginners Class

The innovative course in Polish Studies offered by the Department of Slavonic Studies is among the most popular in the entire Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge. This year the Department’s open classes in the Polish language have also seen record enrollments.

These Polish classes are free and open to all members of the University of Cambridge. They are made possible with the kind support of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London.

Taught by Edyta Nowosielska, the open classes are primarily for students with little or no previous knowledge of Polish or for students who are building upon an elementary knowledge of the language. Both a beginner level class and an intermediate level class are on offer.

‘Our open classes in Polish are integral to our efforts to develop an active, high-profile centre for the advancement of Polish Studies’, said Dr Rory Finnin, Head of the Department of Slavonic Studies. ‘We are working to prepare a new generation of British leaders with strong written and oral competency in Polish, the second most widely spoken language in the United Kingdom.’
