About: 

Ángeles Carreres's interests lie in the fields of translation and language learning. She has published a number of papers on these topics and, with María Noriega-Sánchez and Carme Calduch, is joint author of Mundos en palabras: Learning advanced Spanish through translation (Routledge, 2018), a handbook which explores innovative ways of using translation for language teaching and learning.  Ángeles is also interested in the interplay between translation and philosophy, and she is the author of the monograph Cruzando límites: la retórica de la traducción en Jacques Derrida (Oxford & Bern: Peter Lang, 2005; in English: Crossing Borders: The Rhetoric of Translation in Jacques Derrida), which looks at Derrida’s take on translation, and how this is enacted in his writing. She is currently working on a co-edited volume on the intersection between translation and multimodalily.

Ángeles is currently co-convenor for the series Cambridge Conversations in Translation, based at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and the Humanities (CRASSH). She is Review Editor for the Journal of Spanish Language Teaching (Routledge) and a member of the Editorial Board of Translation and Translanguaging in Multilingual Contexts (John Benjamins).

She has translated two novels into Spanish: Iola Leroy, o las sombras disipadas (PUV, 2008), by the 19th-century African-American author Frances E. W. Harper, and Una larga canción (El Aleph, 2011), by the British Jamaican author Andrea Levy, shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2010.

In 2008 she was one of eleven recipients of the Pilkington Prize for Excellence in Teaching, awarded by the University of Cambridge.
