About:

Helen Hunter is a Research Associate on the AHRC-funded Kaiserchronik Project, which aims to produce the first synoptic edition of the earliest German vernacular chronicle. She is preparing the critical apparatus to the print edition of the text and is co-editor of the online edition Kaiserchronik-digital. Her work traces the Kaiserchronik’s transmission across a period of some 400 years, examining its repeated re-transformations, textual influences and legacy.

Research interests:
  • Middle High German literature, especially the works of Hartmann von Aue
  • Modern German literature, including the works of Franz Kafka and Thomas Mann
  • Intertextual networks and literary reworkings
  • Uses of biblical imagery
Recent research projects:

Helen's doctoral research concerned literary uses of biblical imagery in Hartmann's Middle High German Gregorius and two related 20th century texts, Kafka's Die Verwandlung and Thomas Mann's Der Erwählte. Her thesis will appear in the MHRA’s Bithell series of dissertations.
