Summer Workshop on Latin poetry

* * * THE ART OF WRITING LATIN VERSE: A SUMMER WORKSHOP

Are you interested in Latin poetry? Would you like to learn how to write some? It can be done: and it can be fun – especially in the company of some like-minded people, in an agreeable location.

There will be a summer workshop to introduce the art of writing Latin verse: 9-16 July, 2016, in Sicily. It will be open to Latinists of all kinds: university professors, school teachers, postgraduate and undergraduate students, non-academic enthusiasts. The only essential requirements are a reasonable knowledge of Latin (which need not be at the very highest level), and a willingness to try.

The workshop is sponsored by the University of Michigan and the American University of Rome, and will be led by Dr David Money (Cambridge).

Please see further information and application details online: http://www.umich.edu/~rclatin/IV2Website/index.html

The immediate deadline for applications is 29 January 2016, and we would encourage expressions of interest as soon as possible. It may also be possible to consider those who apply after January: please contact us to enquire. Contact: Dr Gina Soter: soter@umich.edu

We would also be very grateful if you could pass on this information to any others who might be interested: we would like to have as varied and international a group of participants as we can.
