New Cambridge Research Initiative in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

German flag with the words The Hub

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has announced it will provide €1 million over five years to create a research hub at the University of Cambridge.

The hub will draw on and support the activities of ALL CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARS WORKING ON GERMAN-RELATED AND COMPARATIVE THEMES FROM ANY PERIOD AND FROM ACROSS ALL SUBJECTS IN THE ARTS, HUMANITIES AND THE SOCIAL SCIENCES.

It will be open to ESTABLISHED SCHOLARS, POSTDOCS, AND GRADUATE STUDENTS.

The Hub will start operations in January 2016, with a first application deadline of 1 October 2015. It will support:

- Workshops, seed funding for projects, and collaborations between Cambridge and German universities - A range of visiting scholarships at Cambridge for German academics - Joint training, workshops and international networking opportunities for German and Cambridge-based graduate students - Debates between significant British and German public figures - A major annual conference examining different approaches to key themes such as environmental law, history, literature or cultural studies - An annual lecture on a German theme.

We would like to invite anyone interested in becoming involved in the Hub - from graduate level upwards - to a reception to mark its launch, where we will be glad to provide more information and advice on potential applications:
