Calling all MML Students

Calling MML students to act as ‘Language Ambassadors’

Current MML and AMES undergraduates in all year groups are invited to apply to become Language Ambassadors who we can approach to support the outreach activities run each year to motivate the take-up of languages in school and progression to higher levels. These events are run by the Language Centre and the Faculties of Modern and Medieval Languages and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and are particularly aimed at widening participation from under-represented groups in HE generally, into languages in HE and into Cambridge.

We are able to offer a small payment for your time, and from previous experience we know that the Language Ambassadors find participation in these events extremely fulfilling, as well as a useful addition to their CVs.

The role of Language Ambassador is to help motivate participating school pupils, inviting you to share your own experiences of learning languages at school and university and, where relevant, the experiences gained on your year abroad.

There is a developing programme of events, some of which take place here in Cambridge and some in other parts of the country (including Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle during 2017-18). At each of these we aim to involve 3-4 current students as Language Ambassadors.

Most of these events will take place:

  • In January, near the beginning of term (in Cambridge)
  • In March, just after the end of term (around the UK)
  • In June, just after the end of term (in Cambridge)

There may well be others, as yet to be confirmed.
