Welcome to the Faculty Library

The Modern and Medieval Languages Library supports teaching and learning in European languages, literatures and cultures and in linguistics. The Library holds over 115,000 books and 5,000 films as well as European magazines and newspapers, e-books, e-journals and a small selection of scholarly print journals. MML undergraduates and MPhil students should find all the material they need for their studies in these collections.

The Library also includes a German research collection, the Beit Library collection.

Term time opening hours (23 April - 15 June 2018)

Monday - Friday: 9.00-19.00

Saturday: 11.00-18.00

Sunday: 11.00-18.00


Vacation opening hours:

Monday - Friday: 9.00-17.00

Saturday: Closed

Sunday: Closed


Extended opening hours during the examination period:

Monday - Friday: 9.00-19.00

Saturday: 11.00-18.00

Sunday: 11.00-18.00


Doors are locked 15 minutes before closing time and no more readers are admitted.


Library news

Vacation borrowing for the 2018 Easter vacation period

8 March 2018

Vacation borrowing will begin on Monday, 12 March 2018 . All books borrowed on or after this date will be due for return by 7pm on Thursday, 26 April 2018. It is now also possible to take out DVDs and overnight loan books for the vacation period.

Book returns during the strike period

If you do not want to cross picket lines but have books that are due for return on a strike day and cannot be renewed again or have been recalled, please email the library . Please note that the library is open on Saturdays (which are not strike days) and you can also make use of the book dropbox...
