Performance of 'Sponsus' at Christ's College Chapel

Performance of ‘Sponsus’,  a sung drama from medieval Aquitaine.

This Sunday, 3 March, at 6pm in Christ’s College Chapel there will be an abridged performance of ‘Sponsus’, a play written c.1050-1100 and chanted in Occitan and Latin.

A new translation, with scoring, has been made by Dr Mary Franklin-Brown, Fellow in MML at Christ’s.  The piece dramatizes the biblical parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins and will be accompanied by an address by Dr Franklin-Brown, within the context of a shortened Evensong.  In addition, in line with our policy of featuring other languages in chapel this term, there will be readings in Italian and Chinese.

All are welcome to attend.
