We are pleased to share that Charles Forsdick, Drapers Professor of French in MMLL, has been elected a corresponding fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities.
The Academy is one of Australia’s five Learned Academies – independent organizations established to encourage excellence in their respective fields and to provide expertise and advice at public, institutional and government levels. Election to its fellowship recognizes achievement in and contribution to the humanities in Australia. Charles has collaborated regularly with colleagues in Australia throughout his career, most recently as Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Queensland in Spring 2023. He has close contacts with the Australian Society for French Studies and is an active member of the editorial advisory board of the Australian Journal of French Studies (published by Liverpool University Press). He collaborated with colleagues at the University of Tasmania on a major AHRC/LABEX-funded project, ‘“Dark Tourism” in Comparative Perspective: Sites of Suffering, Sites of Memory’, 2016-18, and also worked closely with researchers at Monash University on a large AHRC-funded project, ‘Transnationalizing Modern Languages’, 2014-18.
Charles hopes to use his role as corresponding fellow to develop connections between his work as Lead Fellow for Languages at the British Academy and parallel activity at the Australian Academy of Humanities.
