Warmest congratulations to Dr Elena Sottilotta, who has been awarded a Research Fellowship at Murray Edwards College. She will begin her Research Fellowship on 1 October 2023.

Elena obtained her PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2022 with a research project in women’s studies, folklore and fairy-tale studies, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Vice-Chancellor’s Award. During the three years of her Fellowship at Murray Edwards, she is going to investigate the socio-cultural background of folk and fairy-tale collections in Italy in the post-Unification period by reappraising the efforts of various women within and outside the niche of folklore studies, with further consideration of overlapping fields through which oral traditions were often perpetuated, such as travel writing, dialectology and children’s literature.
